On February 10, at 7pm, Dr Tracy Borman, bestselling author, historian and broadcaster will be exploring how in 1603 the crown of England was transferred to the Stuart King James VI of Scotland on the death of the childless Queen Elizabeth. During this period Shakespeare was at the peak of his theatrical career and the events, including the transfer of power, found their way into his plays. Tracy Borman’s new book The Stolen Crown: Treachery, Deceit & the Death of the Tudor Dynasty has been described as “Part political thriller, part detailed historical scholarship”. For £10, visitors are welcome to attend the meeting at the Methodist Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon’s Old Town and copies of the book will be available to buy.
