SHAKESPEARE AND CHINA

The talk will focus on the 1692 semi-opera The Fairy queen (a version of a Midsummer Night's Dream which includes the first English stage depiction of China) and compare its sense of where Shakespeare and China fit together with that represented by some recent productions from China.
